Brazil: Great Growth Imports AOV
Brazil is one of the most important countries in the import of olive-pomace oil in the world. Its imports in the first eight months of the 2019/20 campaign are measured in almost 93,000 tons of olive oil per year, which represents an increase of 20% compared to the previous year. Other countries that have also increased their imports have been Canada, China and Japan with 13%, 7% and 4% respectively compared to the previous season. Russia is also a major importer of olive oil, but data was showed only until March which, compared to the previous period, represented an increase of 13%. Regarding European INTRA and EXTRA trade, in this same campaign that we are studying in 2019/20, there has been an increase of 12% (INTRA) and 17% (EXTRA), so it is still good news for the olive oil market.
Regarding the trade in table olives, in the 2019/20 season, Brazil and Canada increased their imports by 5%. On the contrary, we have countries like Australia and the United States that have decreased by 16% and 2% respectively. In the case of the United States, we have to consider that this reduction may be due to the tariffs imposed by the American country. Regarding table olives in the European Union, INTRA-European trade increased by 6% and in the case of EXTRA-European trade, it increased by 2%, compared to the previous period.
