Japan large importer of Spanish EVOO

From the International Olive Council (IOC), they have prepared a report with data of imports from Japan of EVOO and its main partners. Japan is one of the benchmarks since it is the fourth largest importing world power with 7% of total world imports, ranking behind the US with 36%, the European Union with 15% and Brazil with 8%. In the following Table, the main partners of Japan for importation of EVOO and derivatives are represented.   - TABLE 1: Evolution of imports of Olive Oil and Olive Pomace Oil by country of origin.     2013/14 2014/15 2015/16 2016/17 2017/18 2018/19 Variation % SPAIN 26455 33584 31455 33757 33622 43360 29% ITALY 24691 25066 22233 20769 19022 22998 20,90% TURKEY 3893 1884 870 830 2757 2590 -6,10% GREECE 670 794 1160 691 705 744 5,50% TUNISIA 79 83 106 189 355 320 -9,90% PORTUGAL 27 128 413 213 397 256 -35,60% AUSTRALIA 60 75 230 185 91 192 109,60% CHILE 71 104 103 74 59 77 30,30% OTHERS 272 187 168 175 157 104 -33,60% TOTAL 56218 61904 56738 56884 57166 70640 23,60% SOURCE: Own elaboration with data from the International Olive Council (IOC).   As can be seen in TABLE 1, the largest exporter of Olive Oil and Olive Pomace Oil in Japan is Spain, reaching exports of 43,360 tons in the 2018/19 campaign, 29% more than the previous campaign. Italy, the second exporting country to Japan, in the last campaign reached 22,998 t of exports, 20.9% more than the previous campaign. Australia has also had a great increase in exports to Japan, having exported 192 tons in the 2018/19 campaign, well below other countries, but with an increase of 109.6% compared to the previous campaign. Spain, being the largest EVOO producer in the world, is also a world leader in its exports. In one of the previous posts, we saw how Spain is also the first exporter of EVOO to the USA. Thanks to these studies, we see the confidence that many countries have in the quality of Spanish products, thus making Spain a leading country in global EVOO exports.
